different types of rappers:

honestly? there’s only 5 types of rappers.

1. [underground focus] emcee (an artist that focuses mainly on social issues and / or issues related to the consciousness of the non-white / oppressed community; a ‘PEOPLE’S CHAMP’ / ‘VOICE OF THE VOICELESS’, if you will)

2. [mainstream focus] gangster rapper (an artist that focuses mainly on black-on-black violence, materialism, drugs, women, and generalized braggadocio) – – – the ‘gangster rapper’ is given a high priority ‘push’ (advertising, marketing, promoting) by various corporate entities.

3. [underground focus] battle rapper (an artist that focuses mainly on the underground art of battle rapping; LIVE toe-to-toe rap-fight vs an opponent in front of an audience – a ‘debate’ of sorts.

4. [underground focus] lyricist (an artist that focuses mainly on advanced concepts, double (and sometimes TRIPLE meanings) entendres, college level vocabulary / terminology; and a has a writing / delivery style that is difficult to replicate / duplicate.

5. [mainstream focus] white rapper (an artist that focuses on taking Black music and converting it (re-packaging & re-branding), thus making it more palatable for White people & White listeners as a whole) – – –the ‘White rapper’ is given a high priority ‘push’ (advertising, marketing, promoting) by various corporate entities.

  1. i think the irony is that the gangsta rappers actually probably listen to the lyricists in his spare time.

this also makes me ask again,
if many rappers are truly intelligent and are simply putting on an ignorant mask for their public persona,
then why search for money in a false hoax.

just make real music regardless of how many millions you can sell.
there are clearly intelligent musicians putting out some fum duck musics out here…

    • “why search for money in a false hoax”

we could ask church pastors the same question.

i don’t think many rappers are truly intelligent…if rappers were that intelligent as a whole, Hip-Hop would be in much better shape than it’s currently in.

“just make real music regardless of how many millions you can sell.”

      RIGHT.

but “real music” isn’t what’s in demand; the truth HURTS, so nobody wants to hear that – – – and if they do, it’s in marginalized moderation.

“there are clearly intelligent musicians putting out some fum duck musics out here…”

yeah; people will do strange things for a few dollars and five minutes of fame.

  2. well,

i always used to try to justify luke back in my high school days.

got into rap way before that, of course, but during high school we drove around in my friend’s bronco 2 and listened to cassette tapes loud as fukk with crazy bass.
    run dmc was flawless
    too short was even tighter
(i won’t lie, we had jazzy jeff and the fresh prince too)
geto boys always got us in a party mood
nwa was unbelievable time after time
    and then 2 live crew.

it always bugged me that 2 live crew’s music was far and away the most ignorant of all the rap we were presented with by that boomin system in the bronco.

i felt like luke was smart, but wondered (even as a 15 year old) why he couldn’t express himself more eloquently.

of course we saw the banned in the usa project after that, which was actually mad cointelpro.
i appreciated luke a little more after banned in the usa, but by then it was too late.

    so,
sorry for the personal rant, but i just wonder why smart people make dumb songs.

    • “sorry for the personal rant”

      it’s all good.

society just has to want MORE for itself…ya know?

people wonder why we have all this drama and decay in society – – – the MEDIA is largely responsible for that shit…it keeps the cycle GOING – AND started the cycle in the first place. – – – Rap / ‘Hip-Hop’ these days just adds fuel to the fire of societal de-evolution.
