macklemore – a few thoughts

macklemore

SEATTLE can NEVER have a “hood” rapper as the POSTER-CHILD…because SEATTLE isn’t a “hood” city…

SURE – “hood” shit happens DAILY in SEATTLE – but nobody will ACCEPT a “HOOD” rapper from a city that IS NOT “hood”.

SEATTLE isn’t a “swag” city…not to put SEATTLE on blast, but damn near everything we do here was STARTED somewhere else:

gang / banging / set trippin’ / representin’ – came from CALIFORNIA (RED & BLUE) – (BLACK) came from ILLINOIS…we didn’t START that.

G-RIDES / SCRAPERS – again, ORIGINATED in CALI.

“SWAG”…nope, we didn’t START that, either.

HIP-HOP – …SAME THING…came from SOMEWHERE ELSE…New York.

damn near EVERYTHING Seattle DOES was started somewhere else.

which brings me to my next point –

since we don’t START anything – nobody can take us SERIOUSLY…

WHY don’t they take SEATTLE seriously???

BECAUSE it’s a WHITE CITY that doesn’t START anything

so…that leaves us with the next point.

since we don’t START anything and since it’s a WHITE city, all we can do is provide the best of what a UNORIGINAL WHITE CITY can offer:

a WHITE RAPPER from a WHITE CITY that gives white people what they can relate to on a massive scale…an UBER-COOL, laid-back, non-violent, family-friendly, generally accepted by black people rapper from a technically advanced city, that has a heavy LA / NY influence.

in other words, HE’S THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

white enough to be still accepted by the white masses, and just “black” enough to be accepted by the white masses.

FOR EXAMPLE…

i’ll throw two examples into my spiel –

GRYNCH and AVATAR…two other white rappers –

see…

GRYNCH is TOO WHITE / NOT “BLACK” enough to appeal to the white masses.

AVATAR is TOO BLACK / NOT “WHITE” enough to appeal to the white masses.

MACKLEMORE is “WHITE” ENOUGH because of his sound, style, affiliations, and music topics AND “BLACK” ENOUGH due to his sound, style, affiliations, and music topics.

    this seems partly misinformed,
it assumes that the elements from each of those two rappers’ presentations can be ascribed to one race or another.
    that is foolish and impossible.

can any topic or concept can be deemed white or black?

    ikea: white or black?
    facebook: whote or black?
    baseball caps: white or black?
    guns: white or black?
taking a girl shopping: white or black?
    sex: white or black?

    and on and on…

    • not everything is black and white when discussing BLACK & WHITE – feel me?

there’s truth in what you’re saying – and there’s truth in what i’m saying.

so when that’s the case, we have to look at the NUMBERS, at HISTORY, and at ourselves.

in other words / all i’m saying is this:

race IS a factor…and whatever criteria you deem relevant to prove your point – others may disagree with.

      – my criteria may be different than yours – but the fact still remains – … – that race IS a factor.

this country isn’t as far past RACE as it’d like to think – and that point there is ANOTHER point that many Blacks and Whites INHERENTLY disagree upon.

  2. well, i immediately thought that ‘killing black people’ was a slightly heavy title for that track,
that is until i listened to it once or twice,
    and thought about it.

now i appreciate it as a system or flow chart type of song.
    equation.
    something like that.

but it is the same process, choosing what is black or white, like mike jack…

of course race is a factor.
it is heavy with us every day in seattle.

if new orleans is the chocolate city,
and washington dc is the chocolate city with a marshmallow center,
    then,
seattle is a goddamn scoop of cookies and cream.

    • “now i appreciate it as a system or flow chart type of song.
      equation.”

      it IS.

it’s the 10 COMMANDMENTS – of DEATH – spiritual, physical, & emotional – that’s what HIP-HOP / RAP basically is these days – – – as far as what’s being PUSHED to the ‘masses’.

of course there’s ‘pockets’ of REAL / WHOLESOME / HEALTHY Hip-Hop / Rap all over the WORLD – but – what’s being PUSHED (HEAVILY marketed, advertised, & promoted) is basically POISON – disguised as ENTERTAINMENT. what ‘everybody’ is talking about (a SHIT-LOAD OF LOCAL RAPPERS INCLUDED) is basically self-destructive MONKEY-SEE / MONKEY-DO BULLSHIT…INSECTICIDE, if you will. small doses of poison coated singles, albums, and mix-tapes – – – with the outer appearance of something INNOCENT, HEALTHY, and sustainable.
